The startup Futureverse has teamed up with Ready Player One author Ernest Cline and the producer of the film adaption, Dan Farah, to create a metaverse platform called Readyverse.

Futureverse was founded by Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald and has raised $54 million in venture capital. The startup and its partners have formed Readyverse Studios to bring the Readyverse to life. The goal is to bring leading products and brands to their metaverse platform.

Readyverse Studios’ first major deal is a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal will see the Ready Player One franchise brought to the platform. Additional partnerships will be announced soon.

The startup’s technology has reportedly been in development for five years and is said to be scalable, user-friendly, and offer generative AI tools.

OPINION

The Metaverse hype sparked by Facebook’s rebranding as Meta has long since faded. In fact, the industry has moved no closer to this grand vision since 2021. While there are efforts to agree on industry-wide standards for the Metaverse, progress is slow because not all companies have the same vision and goals.

The Readyverse seems to be just another attempt to create an insular proto-Metaverse and commercialize it with the help of well-known brands, instead of working towards the idea of an all-encompassing platform.
